MEDIUM VOLTAGE SWITCHGEAR 2400, 4160, 7200, 13800 VOLTS
ALLIS CHALMERS, SIEMENS ALLIS, SIEMENS
In the 1940’s and early ‘50s, WESTINGHOUSE manufactured its first line of medium voltage circuit breakers and associated switchgear. The models produced were the:
- AM150A 600 and 1200 amp, 4160 volt
- AM250A 600 and 1200 amp, 4160 volt
These SWITCHGEAR was developed utilizing the vertical lift design. The breakers had primary drawout clusters, while the switchgear contained stationary stabs in phenolic cylinders.
In the mid 1950’s ALLIS CHALMERS followed its original designs for 4160 volt breakers with a series of breakers and also called the AM and for higher voltages the MC series. The MC series had new design characteristics. -
The AM series was characterized by the continued use of a vertical lift mechanism and a open door drawout design. The circuit breakers of this series were designated:
- 50C
- 100C
- AM150 B.C.D.E
- AM 250 B,C,D,E
The MC series was characterized by the use of \a horizontal drawout mechanism, and an open door drawout design.
The breakers were designated:
- MB250
- MB500
- MC500
In the 1960’s ALLIS CHALMERS radically changed its horizontal drawout design of medium voltage breakers and switchgear and developed the MA, FB and FC series of circuit breakers.
The above designs were designated:
- MA 75
- MA150 A,B,C,C1
- MA250 A,B,C,C1
- MA350
- FA350
- FB250 A,B
- FB500 A,AI,B
- FC500 A,A1,B
- FC750 A,A1,B
- FC1000 A,A1,B
This later set of designs was made available in indoor, outdoor non-walk-in and outdoor walk-in configurations.
The air circuit breaker designs of ALLIS CHALMERS were eventually changed in the 1970’s by SIEMENS ALLIS when they developed their first line of horizontal drawout vacuum circuit breakers. These breakers were designated . The switchgear assemblies were designed to accept the circuit breakers in a 2 high, horizontal drawout, closed-door configuration. From the insulation standpoint, line and load bus details were isolated from one another. This vacuum switchgear was available in indoor, outdoor non-walking and outdoor walk-in configurations.
Subsequent to the initial design, SIEMENS developed the GMI vacuum circuit breaker and switchgear system. This up rated system continued the basic design principles developed by in the design. These newly designed breakers were designated
- 50GMI 250
- 50GMI 350
- 75GMI 500
- 150GMI 500
- 150GMI 750
- 150GMI 1000
