MEDIUM VOLTAGE CIRCUIT BREAKERS

ALLIS CHALMERS / SIEMENS ALLIS / SIEMENS

In the 1940’s and early ‘50s, ALLIS CHALMERS / SIEMENS manufactured its first line of medium voltage circuit breakers and associated switchgear. The models produced were the:

   - AM150A      600 and 1200 amp, 4160 volt
   - AM250A     600 and 1200 amp, 4160 volt

These circuit breakers were developed utilizing the vertical lift design. The breakers had primary drawout clusters, while the switchgear contained stationary stabs in phenolic cylinders.

In the mid 1950's ALLIS CHALMERS followed its original designs with a series of breakers also called the AM and MC series.

The AM series was characterized by the continued use of solenoid operated closing mechanisms, a vertical lift mechanism and a open door drawout design. The circuit breakers of this series were designated:
   - 50C
   - 100C
   - AM150 B.C.D.E
   - AM 250 B,C,D,E

The MC series was characterized by the use of solenoid operated closing mechanisms, a horizontal drawout mechanism and an open door drawout design.
The breakers were designated:
   - MB250
   - MB500
   - MC500

The above breakers were offered in a number of models with amperage ranges from a low of 1200 amps for some designs to 2000 amps for other designs.

In the 1960’s WESTINGHOUSE radically changed its horizontal drawout design of medium voltage breakers and developed the MA, FB and FC series of circuit breakers. These units were originally offered with solenoid operated closing mechanisms, but eventually the design was changed to stored energy.

   - FB250 A,B
   - FB500 A,AI,B

   - FC750 A,A1,B

The Medium Voltage Circuit Breakers manufactured by ALLIS CHALMERS, SIEMENS ALLIS and SIEMENS have been obsoleted...
