MEDIUM VOLTAGE AIR & VACUUM CIRCUIT BREAKERS
2400, 4160, 7200, 13800 VOLTS
WESTINGHOUSE, EATON, & CUTLER HAMMER
In the 1940’s and early ‘50s, WESTINGHOUSE manufactured its first line of medium voltage circuit breakers and associated switchgear. The models produced were the:
- 50DH50 600 and 1200 amp, 4160 volt
- 50DH75 600 and 1200 amp, 4160 volt
- 50DH150 1200 and 2000 amp, 4160 volt
- 50DH250 1200 and 2000 amp, 4160 volt
- 75DH250 1200 and 2000 amp, 7200 volt
- 75DH500 1200 and 2000 amp, 7200 volt
- 150DH250 1200 and 2000 amp, 14400 volt
- 150DH500 1200 and 2000 amp, 14400 volt
These circuit breakers were developed utilizing the horizontal drawout design. The breakers had primary drawout clusters, while the switchgear contained stationary stabs in porcelain or plastic cylinders.
In the mid 1950's GENERAL ELECTRIC followed its original designs with a series of breakers also called the DH series. This series was characterized initially by the continued use of solenoid operated closing mechanisms, and a open door drawout design. The circuit breakers of this series were designated:
- 50DH50A
- 50DH75E
- 50DH150A,D,E
- 50DH250A,D,E
- 50DH350E
- 75DH250D,E
- 150DH500E
- 150DH750
- 150DH750E
- 150DH1000
- 150DH1000E
The above breakers were offered in a number of models with amperage ranges from a low of 600 amps for some designs to 3000 amps for other designs.
A number of the earlier models with identical Type Designations to Later models are not interchangeable
In the 1960’s WESTINGHOUSE radically changed its horizontal drawout design of medium voltage breakers and developed the DHP series of circuit breakers. These units were originally offered with solenoid operated closing mechanisms, but eventually the design was changed to stored energy. The insulation of the breaker was originally a porcelain casting design which was eventually changed to a post insulator design.
The above designs were designated:
- 50DHP75
- 50DHP250
- 50DHP350
- 75DHP500
- 150DHP500
- 150DHP750
- 150DHP750C
- 150DHP1000
